Buyer's Guide for iPhone 12 Mini vs. iPhone 12

As the successor to the iconic iPhone 11, with a new squared-off industrial design, the A14 Bionic chip, an OLED display, and Mag Safe, Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 this month. However, Apple also released a smaller version of the iPhone in the form of the 'iPhone 12' mini for the first time.

Apple finally answered the pleas of small-phone fans and offered the iPhone 12 mini after years in which phone sizes have increased and after the success of the small-form iPhone SE. The iPhone 12 mini, however, has a few significant distinctions from its larger brother. It's also $100 cheaper, beginning at $699 instead of $799 for selected carriers for the iPhone 12. Our guide helps address the question of how to determine which of these two iPhones is better for you and highlights what when you pick the smaller model you are missing out on.

Comparing the iPhone 12 with the mini iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini share almost all of the same main characteristics. Both phones are packed with the same OLED Super Retina XDR display technology, A14 Bionic processor, 5 G networking, dual and 12MP Ultra Large and Wide cameras, and come in the same colours. Where the two devices differ is more interesting.

Differences

iPhone 12

  • Mega Retina XDR 6.1-inch OLED display with a 2532-by-1170-pixel resolution at 460 ppi
  • Less prominent notch due to the greater size of the display
  • Battery life with video playback of up to 17 hours
  • Weight of 164 grams
iPhone 12 mini

  • 5.4-inch OLED Super Retina XDR Display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels at 476 ppi
  • More noticeable notch because of the smaller size of the monitor
  • Battery life with video playback of up to 15 hours
  • Weight of 135 grams
Read on for a closer look at each of these things, to see just where the mini compares with the iPhone 12.

Scale of Display

The monitor size is the most significant difference between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini. The iPhone 12 is 6.1 inches in height, and the 12 mini is 5.4 inches in size. This means that with the UI elements of apps spaced further apart, the larger phone will be able to show more content, and things such as the keyboard will be much larger. However, with only one hand, the smaller phone would be much more pocketable and easy to use.

The displays themselves use the very same technology and have the same features, but due to their better fit in the hand and simpler one-handed use, the key reason for choosing the iPhone 12 mini is.
Since the notch at the top of the screen housing the front-facing TrueDepth camera array is the same regardless of screen size across the iPhone 12 lineup, the notch on the iPhone 12 mini is at its most distracting and visible. The notch is much closer than on larger iPhones to the sides of the screen. The larger iPhone 12 could also be favoured by those who hate the notch, as it is slightly less noticeable on a 6.1-inch screen.

Dimensions and Weight

The iPhone 12 mini, as a smaller handset, obviously has less height and width than the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 mini is 15.2 mm shorter than the iPhone 12 and 7.3 mm narrower. Both phones, however, have the same 7.4 mm thickness. The iPhone 12 mini, at just 135 grammes (4.76 ounces) in total, is also 29 grammes (1.02 ounces) lighter than its larger equivalent.

Battery Life

Battery life is one of the most noticeable distinctions between these two iPhones. According to Apple, the 'iPhone 12' will have up to 17 hours of video playback. Although, because the iPhone 12 mini is much smaller, it can only handle a smaller battery as well. This means that up to 15 hours of video playback are allegedly delivered by the iPhone 12 mini. For both devices, real-world battery life is likely to be lower than Apple 's predictions, since mixed use appears to be a little heavier than pure video replay.
The iPhone 12 mini might not be the best option if battery life is a priority for you, as it is undoubtedly the weakest point of the phone. If you decide to get the iPhone 12 mini, expect it to be charged even more regularly than on a larger model. In the iPhone 12, the larger battery has a higher capacity and can therefore give a longer battery life.

Eventual feelings

Ultimately, screen size is a matter of personal preference, and Apple offers the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro range with three different sizes to accommodate the needs of all customers. Since the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini features are shared, and only differ when it comes to the realistic side effects of having a smaller device, individual preference comes down to it.

The iPhone 12 mini seems to be made for small phone fans, and it does not sacrifice any functionality as compared to the full size iPhone 12. For many users, purchasing the iPhone 12 mini will clearly be if the form factor is more relevant than the battery life is slightly shorter.
