10 Long Press Tips to Reveal Hidden Functions in Safari on iPhone and iPad
A long click gesture (also known as a press-and-hold) on the iPhone and iPad will also trigger a different behavior in an app that is not instantly evident, such as displaying the contextual menu of an icon. On recent iPhones, in the form of a sensation that Apple calls Haptic Touch, a long press will often also give haptic feedback.
In its applications, Apple has made extensive use of the long press gesture and Haptic Touch, which means that if you do not tend to long press screen elements, you may be unaware of some easy shortcuts to daily actions, or you may even be totally missing out on app features.
This is especially true for the native mobile browser of Apple, Safari, which has many handy features that can be accessed with a long click. We put together 10 of our favourite long press tips for Safari on iPhones and iPads running iOS 13 in this post.
Notice that for a long gesture to be remembered, the default minimum time that a finger must press on the screen is half a second. Open the Settings app, go to Usability-> Haptic Contact, and try choosing the Quick or Slow Touch length if you are having difficulty performing a long click. To test each environment, there is also a handy interactive demo area for you.
