iOS 13 Hidden Features: A Comprehensive List

 Apple debuted iOS 13 this week with a tonne of updates, including a new dark mode option, big performance improvements, faster Face ID, easier photo editing software, a new Images gui, a swipe-based keyboard, a Sign In with Apple Privacy feature, and loads more.

There are thousands if not hundreds of smaller secret features that are included in iOS 13, in addition to those features that made it into Apple's keynote case. Our extensive list of fresh and notable "hidden features in iOS 13 is below.

Wi-Fi Options in Control Center

Right from the Control Center, you can change WiFi networks, but getting to them is a little frustrating. To pull up the expanded options, long press in the centre of the WiFi/Bluetooth widget, and then Force Click the WiFi icon to see a list of active networks.

Bluetooth Options in Control Center

As with Wifi, from the Control Center, you can access your list of Bluetooth devices available. To display the extended options, long press in the centre of the WiFi/Bluetooth widget and then Force Touch on the Bluetooth icon to see a list of the Bluetooth devices you've connected to before.

Location Settings

During the keynote, Apple stated that location access in iOS 13 is being scaled back, and there is a new choice in the Settings app that allows an app to ask each time it wants to access your location.

Block Senders in Mail

Your list of blocked phone numbers and contacts in iOS 13 expands to the Mail app, enabling you to prevent people from sending mail to you. There is a function in the Settings app to block contacts in Mail and to ignore blocked senders.

Thread Muting in Mail

There is a new way to mute a thread if you swipe a message in the Mail app and then pick 'More,' so you will not get updates when a new email is sent in that thread.

Reading Goals in Books

There is a new Reading Goals feature in the Books app, which keeps track of how much you've read each day. Every day the app inspires you to learn, see your stats soar, and finish more books.

Silence Unknown Callers

There's a new toggle in the Phone section of the Settings app that will allow you to block all unknown callers, cutting down on the spam calls you receive.

Low Data Mode

There's an option to allow Low Data Mode in the Settings app under Cellular, which notes that it lets apps on your iPhone minimise their use of network data. For unique WiFi networks, there is also a Low Data Mode option that can be allowed.

Improved Messages Search

In the Messages app, you can see a new interface with suggested contacts and links that you have been sent when you swipe down to check. "See All."See All.

Notes Folder Management

There are new features in the Notes app on iOS 13 for handling your folders. To access options like Add People, Transfer This Folder, Rename, and Display Attachments, tap the '...' icon.

PS4/Xbox Controller Support

Apple has confirmed Apple TV support for PS4/Xbox One S controllers, but these controllers will also be supported on iPhone and iPad.

New Animoji

In iOS 13, there are 3 new Animoji: a cow, an octopus, and a mouse. There are also loads of new accessories for your Memojis, as described on stage, and there are new Memoji stickers that you can see available in the iOS keyboard emoji section.

Separate Emoji and Globe Keys

On the iOS keyboard, the emoji key is no longer the same key as the globe key that allows you to switch between languages. Next to the number symbol, the emoji key lives and now the globe is below. In iOS 12, an all-in-one main feature was switched over by a long button.

Automatic Safari Tab Closing

There's a new feature in the Safari section of the Settings app to automatically close all of the tabs you open in Safari. You can set it to a day a week, a month, or you can set it to a manual, which is how it works at the moment.

Attachments in Calendar

You can now add attachments like documents to events you have scheduled in the calendar app.

App Updates

You need to open the App Store to update apps on iOS 13, tap your profile, and select apps from the Pending Updates section. In iOS 12, there was a tab for updates, but it was scrapped in favour of the Apple Arcade tab in iOS 13.

Safari Screenshots

There's a new option to save it as a full page when you take a screenshot in Safari, which exports the whole webpage as a PDF that you can save or share. Until you send it, you can also use Markup to edit it.

Updated Mute Switch Interface

There's a new interface that lets you know if Silent Mode is on or off when you turn on the mute switch on the iPhone in iOS 13. It is placed at the top of the window, replacing the previous warning in the centre of the display that popped up.

Optimized Battery Charging

Optimized Battery Charging is introduced by a new iOS 13 feature. The iPhone learns from your normal charging routine, according to Apple, and waits to finish charging past 80 percent before you need to use it, which is intended to minimise battery ageing.

Home App Improvements

The control options have been redesigned and simplified for your HomeKit devices in the Home app. Accessible controls vary by computer, but in general, the move makes it easier to access options that you search or use regularly (such as different light colours). In a card-style view, controls are now also shown so that you can swipe them away to get back to the main Home app screen.

AirPlay 2 Devices in HomeKit Automations

You can now use AirPlay 2-enabled HomeKit automation modules. And when you get home, you can do stuff like set up music to play.

Photos Zoom

There's a new +/- icon at the top of the Photos app that lets you zoom in and out of your Photos tab when clicked. Using pinch motions, you can also zoom in and out.

Business Chat Suggestions

Instead when calling a company that provides business chat, your iPhone can offer to start a business chat so that you can connect with a company through a text message rather than from a phone call.

Time Synced Lyrics in Apple Music

As the lyrics for an Apple Music song are downloaded, they are now synced to the music, so as the song progresses, the lyrics can scroll along. Lyrics can be found at the bottom of any music interface by clicking the new lyrics button.

Up Next in Apple Music

While playing every Apple Music album, there's a new toggle that enables you to see exactly what's next, so there's no confusion as to what's going to play after the current song.

Apple News+ in Stock App

The Stock app will now offer relevant business publications from Apple News+.

Voice Memos

A new pinch to zoom gesture in the Voice Memos app lets you zoom in on the waveform to make editing easier.

Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb While Driving will not activate in iOS 13 when you're using public transit.

Peek Gestures

On any iPhone or iPad that runs iOS 13 or iPadOS, Peek gestures that let you see previews of emails, connections, messages, and more are now available. This were historically limited to 3D Touch applications.

Quick Actions

Now to quickly perform app-specific actions on any device, iPhone or iPad, you can press and hold the app icon. This, too was historically limited to 3D Touch applications.

Dolby Atmos Playback

2018 iPhones and iPads support Dolby Atmos video playback in iOS 13.

Personal Hotspot Sharing

If you have Family Sharing enabled, your family members can automatically join your personal hotspot in iOS 13.

Automatic Personal Hotspot

When no internet connection is open, you can automatically connect to the personal hotspot of your iPhone, and there is an option to stay connected even when your computer is asleep, so you can continue receiving messages and push notifications.

Popular WiFi Networks

In iOS 13, your iPhone detects which WiFi networks are being used and lets you know if one is available.

Delete Apps From Update Screen

In the App Store, you can now delete apps from the list of apps to be updated by swiping to the left on them.

Timer

In the Clock app, the Timer function has been modified with a new iOS 13 gui. There's a new circle that slowly depletes, along with the regular timed countdown, when a timer is counting down.

New Volume HUD

For the volume interface in iOS, there's a new look that is planned to be less obtrusive. It's a bar that shrinks down as you continue to click the up or down volume buttons on the left side or top side of the show. What is cool is that in addition to using the physical volume keys, you can also tap the bar with a finger to change the sound with a swipe.

Haptic Feedback for Face ID

When it unlocks in iOS 13, Haptic Feedback for Face ID will cause your phone to vibrate slightly. By going to Settings > Accessibility > Face ID & Attention, it can be activated.

NFC Tags

With iOS 13, a wider range of NFC tags can be read from iPhones. Japan's national identification cards will use a government-developed app to support the iPhone, and Germany will also allow Apple users to use NFC to load their national ID vehicles, residency permits, and biometric passports onto their iPhones.

Canceling Apps With Subscriptions

On iOS 13, when you uninstall an app to which you have a subscription, you will get an alert that the subscription is still active, so that you can make sure you cancel before removing it. There are options for handling your subscription in the warning.

Quick Actions Menu Size

There is a new icon for an option when using the Messages option to record a voice-based message. It is now a waveform rather than an icon for a microphone.

Voice Messages

Notice that almost all of these features are available on your iPad as well and are part of the latest iPadOS operating system from Apple.

When using Fast Action, the menu that shows up is now smaller with less obtrusive icons, which have also been shifted to the right side of the menu interface.
