Magnifier in iOS 14 Gets Overhauled UI and New Features, Can Be Added to Home Screen

Apple adds new usability features to every version of iOS and enhances others, and iOS 14 is no exception. In iOS 14, the Magnifier app, developed for those with visual difficulties who need support, has new capabilities.

Updated Interface

The app features an improved interface that makes controls accessible more quickly and provides clarity about what each tool does. There are ways to modify brightness and contrast, or to add a philtre to alter what is magnified to a colour that is easier to see for a human.

You can rearrange all the controls to better suit the needs of a user, and you can configure the philtre options to set the one you need and turn it on with a tap.

The flashlight can be toggled on with a tap in a dark region, and the magnification level can be adjusted easily with a slider bar. In the previous version of the app, several of these features were present, but multi-shot, an option for taking more than one picture at once, is new.

Multi Shot Photos

Magnifier users can take several images at one time with a new multi-shot option, capture anything like various menu pages, and then review them all at once, rather than having to take single shots that need to be reviewed one by one.

Adding Magnifier to Home Screen

An app icon to enable the Magnifier function can be added to the Home Screen for regular Magnifier users by accessing the App Library, searching for Magnifier, and then dragging it over to one of the app pages or long-pressing and selecting "Add to Home Screen." The feature can also be accessed with a triple tap on the side button.

To find Magnifier in the App Library, open Settings, tap Accessibility, select Magnifier, and then move to the location to make sure it's switched on.

More Info on accessibility

The improvements are minor yet meaningful to the Magnifier software, rendering the app adjustable for each user and streamlining the process of usage. Apple also introduced to iOS 14 some useful new usability features, such as Back Tap to enable certain iPhone features manually and Sound Recognition to identify sounds such as running water, sirens, alarms, and more.
