Sleep features of iOS 14 and watchOS 7: sleep mode, wind down, sleep monitoring and more
Apple launched a new Sleep Tracking feature in iOS 14 and watchOS 7 that is designed to help you control how much sleep you get with Apple Watch every night and develop your sleep habits through bedtime reminders and a method of winding down.
Sleep Schedule
In the Health app on the iPhone or in the Apple Watch, you can set up a Sleep Schedule with the amount of sleep you want to get each night and your standard sleep and wake up goals.
Setting a Sleep Target is the first step in setting a Sleep Schedule, which enables the Health app to prescribe a bedtime and include a wake-up alarm on the iPhone (and Apple Watch). It also lets you know if you've achieved your nighttime sleep targets.

You'll want to set up a timetable from there, with the time you want to go to bed and the time you want to wake up. The Health app will let you know if your selected times will result in sufficient sleep, based on the sleep objective you set in the phase before.
Every day, you can use the same sleep schedule or pick different timetables for different days. You can have a fixed schedule for workdays and a different schedule for weekends with this feature.
Enabling or disabling a Wake Up Alarm helps you to set a Sleep Schedule, and you can adjust the sound and whether you want haptic feedback. The alarm would go off on the watch instead of on the iPhone if you are wearing an Apple Watch for Sleep Monitoring. In the Health app or, more conveniently, in the Clock app under Warning, you can change the sleep schedule choices.

sleep mode
Sleep Mode is an optional mode that goes with the function of the Sleep Schedule. When allowed, at your chosen bedtime, hiding notifications and turning on Do Not Disturb will simplify your Lock Screen.
You can configure Sleep Mode to automatically turn on and off to fit your Sleep Schedule, but in the Control Center it can also be toggled on or off.

Wind Down
As an optional feature, Wind Down accompanies Sleep Mode and Sleep Schedule. Wind Down allows Sleep Mode to start before bedtime if allowed, to help decrease distractions and help you relax.
Wind Down switches on Do Not Interrupt, like Sleep Mode, and shortcuts to applications or features that you may want to use as part of your night time routine can also emerge. For example, if you read before bed, the app can recommend your reading app, or it suggests your favourite meditation app if you like to meditate.
When enabling and customising the Wind Down feature, you need to configure these shortcuts. Based on the set of apps you have installed for pre-bed activities such as journaling, meditation, listening to music, listening to a podcast, reading, checking off calendar tasks, yoga, and more, the Health app offers specific options.
It will have a period, a note about what bedtime is, and a link to the shortcuts that you have set up so that you can go about your pre-bedtime routine when Wind Down activates at a set time ahead of your set bedtime.

Sleep Tracking
If you have an Apple Watch, Sleep Monitoring, which keeps track of how long you sleep each night and wakes you up with a haptic alarm, is available. On Apple Watch, you can set up Sleep Monitoring through the Health app and it uses the same setup process as all of the above features.
The Apple Watch dims and locks itself based on your sleep schedule with Sleep Tracking allowed, so it won't wake you up during the night. In the Fitness app on the iPhone, Apple Watch sleep data can be viewed. All you need to do is ensure that your watch is charged up and ready to wear at night if your sleep schedule is set up with a bedtime and a wakeup time. During the night, sleep monitoring occurs automatically as long as the battery is on your Apple Watch.
Apple Watch also lets you access your Sleep Schedule summaries, notifies you about the settings of Wind Down and bedtime, and displays some of the sleep monitoring information listed in the Health app.
Waking Up
When you wake up in the morning, with the time and the weather forecast, the alarm that is set will go off on either the iPhone or the Apple Watch and the iPhone will give a "Good Morning" message.

Third-Party Sleep Sources
It should be noted that if you have a gadget that also adds sleep data to the Health app, such as the Apple-owned Beddit sleep monitor, this information can be used to power the Sleep Mode features and sleep data portion of Apple in the Health app instead of the Apple Watch.
Viewing Sleep Data
In the Sleep section of the Health app, the sleep data obtained by the Apple Watch can be viewed. On a weekly or monthly basis, the Health app shows data , allowing you to see your sleep patterns over time.
Sleep time, time in bed, and heart rate are recorded by the Apple Watch, but it doesn't have data beyond that. Some other fitness trackers include light sleep detail, deep sleep, and other parameters, but the sleep tracking feature of the Apple Watch does not.
The Health app's Sleep segment includes charts on sleep duration over time, heart rate during sleep, and weekly , monthly, and annual highlights. It also indicates the average sleep period over the past week and has a sleep quality chart over time.
In addition to this content, Apple provides articles that can be used by iPhone users to enhance their sleep, such as "Why Sleep is so Important" and "Getting a Good Night's Sleep" with sleep tips and information.
Notifications of Battery Level for Apple Watch
IOS 14 and watchOS 7 feature new alerts designed to allow you to better monitor your Apple Watch's battery level so that it can be used both during the day and at night. If the battery level is low, there is a warning and another notification is sent when an Apple Watch has reached its maximum charge level, so you know when it can be removed for a night's sleep from the charger.
Battery use differs when monitoring sleep, but during the night the function seems to use somewhere around 30 percent battery.
Characteristics that you can use without an Apple Watch
The actual sleep tracking feature that monitors how long you have slept is restricted to the Apple Watch, but even if you don't have a watch, all of the other related features such as Sleep Mode and Wind Down are available.
You can start setting these up in the Health app, as mentioned above. Simply open the Health app, tap Browse, scroll to Sleep, and tap it. Tap "Get Started" from there to set parameters that include a target for sleep, a schedule and an alarm.
