Best cheap home printer 2021: The best printers for documents and photos

(Pocket-lint) - In a number of cases, being able to print at home is a blessing. There is no substitute for being able to do it easily and cheaply on your own printer whether you are working from home, have children who need to print out homework, or just need to regularly print out a paper for yourself. The alternative is borrowing from someone else or going to an internet cafe, which doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

To that end, we took a nice and thoughtful look at the market to get you a list of the very best printers you can purchase right now. Since these are not intended for prints of professional quality, we restrict ourselves to low-cost alternatives that are suitable for a home office.

Both these printers can be used on a Mac or Laptop, and cell phones and tablets running iOS and Android can also be used with wired Wi-Fi printers.

HP Envy 5030

There aren't too many big names in the word for consumer printing, but for good reason, HP is sure of one of them. It's got a range of very cheap printers that won't take up a lot of space in your home either, and for those reasons, the Envy 5030 is our top choice. It's a sleek little printer that's not really much bigger than printing paper.

It has very broad usability, and what you would hope for is the print quality. It's an inkjet printer (as are most on this list), but the cartridges of HP last a decent time plus you can sign up for a subscription service that when you need them, will give you more by post. You get on-board scanning as an all-in-one, too, which can come in handy.

Epson Expression Home XP-4100

With the impressive Phrase Home XP-4100, Epson follows quickly on HP's heels, which is a little chunkier than the Envy above, but still fairly unobtrusive in terms of style. Plus, its extra height means that before it gets complete with pages, you can let it print for longer.

You can easily print, copy and scan, including double sides if you like, with a good touch screen for controlling the computer. Plus, it has Wi-Fi to make sure you don't have to hook it up to make it work. At a fair price, it's a perfect, hassle-free choice.

HP Deskjet 2630

We believe this HP Deskjet is likely to be the only controversial design on our list - it may be ideal for you if you're into old iMacs and funkier aesthetics, while others may find it just slightly too noisy. It still houses another impressive, dead, inexpensive printer that, when not in use, can fold up into a very small device.

It can print, scan and copy, like all our picks, and will do the job nicely, but you shouldn't actually expect it to be completely spitting out pages - one consequence of its great price is that it's not the fastest available printer.

    Canon Pixma TS3350

Canon's Pixma line has plenty of printers to choose from but we're not sure any of them are as reasonably priced and defined as the TS3350, which is very simple to set up and use, even if you're only printing from your mobile phone.

When you buy tech for your home, simplicity can be its own reward, and Canon's printer might not be the most fanciful on the market for a long time, but you'll be able to print without trouble, and the quality at the end of it is great.

    Brother HL-L2350DW

Our final choice is a little more costly than the others on this list, and it's also the only laser printer on it - after all they're normally more expensive. Still if you prefer laser printing, this Brother printer does not exactly break the bank and is a very great choice.

It can get through 30 pages a minute, but it's not an all-in-one like the others on this list - after all if you've noticed that you practically never use a scanner or copier, you might not miss the feature much. Even this is a nice cheap choice if you're interested in laser printing.
