IPhone 13 may be arriving next year with 1 TB of storage, Hints Tipster
Apple continues to offer 512 GB of full capacity variants on its online store and through its various distribution partners and other media. Although half a terabyte for many users is considered overkill, a boatload of you would accept that the internal storage will decrease very rapidly as soon as you turn up the video resolution and frame rate. With the iPhone 13, it looks like Apple could be launching 1TB storage models for the first time ever. At least that is what a tipster hints at.
Apple will introduce 8K video recording for the first time in 2021, which will require storage gobs and gobs.
We were having a tiny dose of iPhone 13 rumor's long before the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were officially available to buy. One of them, which is related to optics, discusses Apple's ability to capture stabilized 8K footage at 45FPS through an anamorphic lens for the iPhone 13. Although we told our readers to take the rumour with a pinch of salt, we still want to talk about how much 8K footage is actually consumed by storage.
Each minute of 8K video recording at 30FPS on the Galaxy S20 series consumes 600MB of storage, and while you only have a 5-minute recording limit when the 8K option is toggled, if you do the math, 3GB of storage per clip is involved. Using a 512GB storage model, only about 170 of these 5-minute 8K 30FPS videos will have headroom to capture, but because the operating system and applications can use a lot of that space, the total amount of clips you can record will be much lower.
Then again it's highly unlikely that many ultra-high-definition videos will be available for recording, but if what Jon Prosser says is accurate, then iPhone 13 models with 1TB of internal storage will open up a lot of user opportunities, particularly when it comes to the camera. For its smartphone range, Apple continues to develop camera technology, and while the company has restricted users to recording at 4K 60FPS, 2021 could bring 8K support for all iPhone 13 models.
Then again, since its close competitors in the smartphone market have already been generating similar offers since last year, Apple may simply want to launch 1 TB versions. We'll just have to wait to see what next year's company decision is, so stay tuned.
