Now according to the latest reports, there are a billion active iPhones in use.

It's amazing that Apple had nowhere near a diversified iPhone lineup only a year ago, as it does now. While 2020 had a lot of surprises that placed the tech industry scouring for alternatives due to the COVID-19 pandemic as far as product releases go, Apple continued its run with unveilings ranging from the 2020 iPhone SE to the more costly iPhone 12 series. This aggressive pricing policy now ensures that with every pricing bracket, Apple is able to sell a brand new iPhone, and this is the kind of forward thinking that might have helped the tech giant hit another milestone of a billion active iPhone users.

Analyst Believes Apple Has yet to Hit Peak iPhone Sales

Neil Cybart, who posted the following information, claims that last month the billionth-iPhone-user mark was reached, although he also believes that, despite the fact that the company no longer discloses unit revenues, Apple has not hit peak iPhone sales.

"There are now a billion people with iPhones. Apple reached the one billion iPhone users mark last month, according to my estimation. Thirteen years after going on sale, the most successful and best-selling smartphone remains the iPhone. Competitors continue to either imitate the iPhone shamelessly or be highly affected by the iPhone at least. Looking ahead, the top priorities of Apple for the iPhone include seeking ways to keep the smartphone at the center of the lives of people while understanding the paradigm change introduced by wearables at the same time.

Although quarterly sales of iPhone units include an inherent amount of uncertainty, base totals installed do a better job of long-term tracking of iPhone fundamentals. The installed iPhone base is defined as the total number of individuals using an iPhone (both new and used iPhones). As it would mean people have moved to Android, a declining iPhone installed base would raise a range of warning signs for Apple. A increasing base installed on the iPhone would indicate that Apple continues to see new customers for the first time accepting the iPhone.

The analyst also notes that Apple is extrapolating the value of the iPhone by concentrating on enhancing camera technologies and increasing the amount of 'roles' that an iPhone will address. It has only recently been discovered that the LiDAR device present on the iPhone 12 Pro can use the Measure software to measure someone's height. This is only one example of how adding a single sensor will open up more user experiences, so hopefully, additions can come as long as developers are interested in taking them with them.

At the same time, Cybart argues that unit revenues are not as large installation bases as the latter does a much better job of measuring the required metrics.
