Ring Video Doorbell 3 vs Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus: Which is best for you?

(Pocket-lint) - Ring unveiled two new models of its premium smart doorbells earlier in 2020 - the Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus - as well as a new entry-level Ring Video doorbell.
A new Ring Chime and Chime Pro are also available, to alert you to other places within your home. Once again, the Ring Chime Pro is a Wi-Fi extender, which now has a night light. Both were redesigned, with an Amazon Echo-style fabric panel, to be more aesthetically pleasing.
What's different between the Ring Doorbell 3 and 3 Plus?
Pre-Roll is the main new feature that's only on the Plus. This records video continuously, ensuring that when you get a motion warning it allows you to see the four seconds before you get the alert.
In other words, in the first place, you can see what triggered the alarm. So you can now see them walking down your street, too, as well as seeing the delivery driver by your door. It's also so that you can see an event as a whole rather than just the end of one. The video quality, however, is not Full HD, while there is no audio for it as well.
For this added feature, there's a tiny $30/£20 price premium.
What's the same?
Both of the doorbells have upgrades over the older Ring Doorbell 2, especially the addition of Wi-Fi 5 GHz (in addition to 2.4 Ghz) and Improved Motion Detection, which we're going to get on in a second.
Key specs
Both doorbells generate 1080p Full HD video and, in addition to 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi, have 5 GHz, as we described.
That will be helpful in homes where synchronization between a doorbell and a router has been a problem. For example, we need to have a Chime Pro in place in our home to bridge the gap, otherwise our Ring Doorbell 2 drops the connection.
Like the original Ring Video Doorbell, Ring Video Doorbell 2 and Door View Cam, all of these doorbells are battery-powered (and unlike the Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Elite). You can wire them in, too, but few would actually do that.
Once again, there is a removable battery pack that you will need to recharge every so often via USB. When we study these new doorbells, we will let you know how much
Advanced motion detection
This feature was available only on the wired doorbell Pro (in addition to the pro-grade Ring Video Doorbell Elite).
A modern, customizable motion zone, called Close Zone, is included with both doorbells. Within 1.5 to 4.5 m of the front door, it senses motion, so you can really fine-tune it.
There are also Privacy Areas on both doorbells. This feature allows you to remove parts of the camera view field from recording if you want to stop recording something.
You may also disable the recording of video or audio at any time.
Smart home compatibility
As with other Ring Doorbells, to see your Ring Video Doorbell 3's Live View on Fire TV or Echo Display cameras, you can simply say, 'Alexa, show me the front door.' You may also say, 'Alexa, answer the front door,' in order to start talking to whoever is at their door.
Unfortunately, there's no compatibility with Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit, like other Ring computers.
With Connected Devices in the Ring app, to build a single security system, you can connect your doorbell to compatible Ring Cams.
