The best Beats headphones 2021: Which should you choose?
(Pocket-lint) - Despite still being relatively young, Beats has one of the world's most recognized brands. However, Apple has owned the brand for a good few years now and its parent company has had a significant effect on the technology used in the headphones, as well as its newer designs.
With quite a wide selection of headphones available for all different fits, whether over-ear, on-ear or in-ear, it can be a little difficult to determine which pair is right for you. We've broken down every Beats headphone available today, luckily for you, covering size, features and price.

- On-ears and the cheapest Beats headphones that connect via wire are Beats EP.
- The wireless pair of in-ear headphones with a neckband and the W1 chip are Beats Flex.
- Powerbeats 4, with the H1 chip and an ear-hook feature, are sports-oriented in-ear wireless headphones.
- In turn, Powerbeats Pro is a true wireless version of Powerbeats 4, but with an upgraded interface and the same internal technology as the Apple AirPods.
- UrBeats are traditional headphones with in-ear devices.
Beats Studio 3 Wireless
An over-ear headphone style that encapsulates the entire ear inside the ear cup is the Beats Studio 3 Wireless. This design helps to block external noise, while active noise cancellation further supports it (ANC). This latest ANC varies from previous versions in that it continuously changes its frequency, making it more flexible to match the sound of your setting.
Not only one of the most iconic pairs of Beats headphones available, Beats Studio is one of the most iconic pairs of full stop headphones. Soundwise, as you might suspect, they're bassy, but the whole essence of the audio profile seems to have changed to make it more refined. They can go loud and heavy, and it can just help concentrate you on the music by incorporating active noise cancellation.
Beats Solo Pro
Beats Solo Pro is a pair of headphones that takes the Studio 3 smart and noise cancellation and positions them in a smaller pair of headphones on the neck. It's arguably the best pair of Beats' wireless headphones to date.
The headphones themselves have a premium anodised aluminium arm that slips effortlessly into and out of the headband, while memory foam-stuffed padding is available for the ear cups. Owing to a redesign and new materials, it provides more surface contact than its predecessor. The ear cups are placed on the arms so that they can be freely shifted and angled to match each person.
You don't have the choice of using a wired Solo Pro link, because you need to use a Lightning cable to charge them, but they're still a great pair of ears. They're calm, last ages on a full charge and sound amazing.
Beats Solo 3 Wireless
The Solo 3 Wireless was launched at around the same time as the iPhone 7 and comes with the W1 wireless chip from Apple. For iPhone users, it offers better battery life, a greater Bluetooth range and enhanced connectivity options.
On the left ear cup, touch-sensitive controls for skipping tracks and adjusting volume are present. Beats say up to 40 hours of life - and they last so long - but for a wired link to your phone, you can also naturally plug in a 3.5mm cable. Or to get three hours of playback time, charge them for five minutes.
They're just a pair of Beats headphones in terms of tone, which means bass in your ears. But they do really well on bass. So if you're looking for a strong but compact headphone pair, the Solo 3s are for you.
Beats EP

One of the most accessible ways to place your ears on Beats headphones is the Beats EP. They're an on-ear pair of headphones, and there's no Bluetooth wireless link with a traditional cord. Beats claims the EP headphones have been tuned "the way it was meant to be heard" to replicate sound.
They are designed for portability and as such, come with a lightweight, stainless steel frame and a carrying pouch. The cable has a RemoteTalk unit for taking calls and controlling your audio, which is compatible with iOS devices.
They are a stylish pair of headphones that will certainly include the iconic, bass-heavy Beats sound and will be perfect for anyone searching for an affordable phone headphone upgrade.
Beats Flex
Beats Flex is a welcome upgrade to the Beats X formula, and with a neckband style, they are some of the best budget wireless earbuds around.
They are comfortable to wear and very light, and come in some fun colours, while working superbly with iOS, thanks to the older W1 chip on board, like most of the Beats lineup now in this case. You get 12 hours of battery life, which is pretty amazing for the price, and for a hectic lifestyle, it's really great. If without breaking the bank, you want some Beats, those are the obvious answer.
Powerbeats 4

The Powerbeats 4 have a fit in the form of an ear hook, which means that when you exercise they remain on your ears and come with three pairs of ear tips to ensure a tight fit in your ears. You can change the length of the neck cable so that when you're going, you don't have any extra slack flailing around and they're waterproof, sweat proof and weather proof.
The H1 chip ensures they attach in an instant to your iPhone, and on a single charge, the built-in battery lasts up to 15 hours. The sound they make is fantastic and strong, and there's plenty of bass, of course. However when it comes to workouts, to keep you pumping, bass can be a positive thing. They're not always going to be the right pair to use for daily listening, though.
For workouts, the Powerbeats 4 are the perfect partner. Their wireless and lightweight design, H1 chip for longer battery life and a decent Bluetooth range, will keep you going for longer with engaging sound.
Beats Powerbeats Pro

However, Beats has another alternative that completely loses the wire, resulting in an even better pair of earphones that give you total freedom while running or in the gym - they are unhappily exercise-oriented with the distinctive earhooks, but can be used easily for general listening.
They are based on the same programme as the Apple AirPods, but are sweatproof and waterproof instead. In your face, they're incredibly light and come in a charging case.
Throughout the range, you get super tone, but you don't feel like they're digging against your ear. You don't have to have a maximum seal. They're not removed from the noise, so don't expect that. With nine hours of continuous listening, the battery life is brilliant, though you can charge them from the case twice over again.
urBeats

The UrBeats are a regular pair of in-ear headphones from Beats. The classic Beats style is available in a variety of colours and is wired with a 3.5 mm headphone connector so you can plug it into your phone.
In addition to providing in-line functions, the urBeats have a cable mic for taking calls. The music is delivered classically by Beats, with plenty of bass.
