What should you buy? Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs Galaxy S20 Ultra vs S20+:

 


(Pocket-lint) - On 5 August 2020, alongside the Note 20, Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but it is the Ultra variant that has the highest features, just as the Galaxy S range does with the S20 Ultra.

However, how does the top Note model compare with the top Galaxy S models? If you're in the market for the best Samsung has to say, should you go for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20+ or the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra?

To help you determine which one is right for you, here are the similarities and differences between the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20+ and the Note 20 Ultra.

Design

  • Note 20 Ultra: 164.8 x 77.2 x 8.1mm, 208g
  • S20 Ultra: 166.9 x 76 x 8mm, 220g
  • S20+: 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8mm, 186g
All metal and glass designs include the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S20+, with curved edges, centralized punch hole cameras at the top of their displays and pronounced camera boxes at the top left corner of the rear.

The Notice 20 Ultra has a slightly different look from the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy S20+, as you would imagine. It is squarer in its approach, has an integrated S Ink, and on the rear it has a more prominent camera device. The Galaxy S20 Ultra and S20+, meanwhile, are almost similar to the Note with rounder edges, but the S20 Ultra has a wider rear camera housing.

All devices have microSD slots, USB Type-C charging ports, no 3.5 mm headphone jack, and are all IP68 resistant to water and dust. The Galaxy S20 Ultra, followed by the Note 20 Ultra and then the Galaxy S20+, is the largest and heaviest.

Display

  • Note 20 Ultra: 6.9-inch, AMOLED, 3088 x 1440 (496ppi), 120Hz
  • S20 Ultra:  6.9-inch, AMOLED, 3200 x 1440 (509ppi), 120Hz
  • S20+: 6.7-inch, AMOLED, 3200 x 1440 (524ppi), 120Hz
Both have Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED displays with HDR10+ certification and 120Hz refresh rates on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, S20 Ultra and S20+, although the Note 20 Ultra is said to be brighter.

Both the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra have 6.9-inch displays, while the 6.7-inch S20+ is a little smaller. Everyone has a Quad HD+ resolution, which makes the S20+ the sharpest in terms of pixels per inch, but in fact the difference is not something that the human eye could easily see if all.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, S20 Ultra and S20+ all feature a fingerprint sensor, 5G and LTE model variants on the monitor and all have storage expansion support for microSD.


The Notice 20 Ultra runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, or the Exynos 990, while on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or the Exynos 990, area based, the S20 Ultra and the S20+ operate.

The Note 20 Ultra 5G has 12GB with storage options of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB in terms of RAM and storage support. With storage options of 256GB and 512GB, the 4G variant has 8GB. However, not all models in all countries will be available.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20+ have a 4500mAh battery under their hoods, while the battery size of the S20 Ultra is 5000mAh. All deliver similar results overall.

Wireless charging and quick charging are provided by all devices.

Cameras

  • Note 20 Ultra: Triple rear (12MP + 108MP + 12MP), 10MP front 
  • S20 Ultra: Quad rear (12MP + 108MP + 48MP + DepthVision), 48MP front
  • S20+: Quad rear (12MP + 12MP + 64MP + DepthVision), 10MP front
A triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle, a 108-megapixel wide-angle, and a 12-megapixel telephoto, is available on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20. A laser autofocus sensor is also on board to help achieve the 50X and 5x optical zoom.

Meanwhile, the S20 Ultra has an ultra-wide 12-megapixel, 108-megapixel wide-angle and 48-megapixel telephoto camera. It also has a DepthVision sensor and is 100X Zoom capable, but the long zoom is not really that helpful, so it's understandable why it was dropped for the Note 20 Ultra.

The S20+ has an ultra-wide 12-megapixel, wide-angle 12-megapixel and a 64-megapixel telephoto, and the S20+ provides 30X zoom. The broad telephoto sensors on the models of the Galaxy S20 fully support 8K video.

Like the S20+, the Note 20 Ultra has a front camera with 10 megapixels, while the S20 Ultra has a front camera with 48 megapixels.

Pricing and conclusion

When it first launched, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra began at £ 1199 or $ 1399.99. When it first shipped, the S20+ began at £999 or $1199.99. The Ultra Note 20 begins at £ 1179 or $ 1299, putting it between the Ultra S20 and the S20+.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra remains the computer with the highest hardware specifications on paper, providing more RAM and a greater battery capacity than the Note 20 Ultra, but you lack the extra power of the SD865 Plus processor (in those regions), the S Pen and the Ultra Wideband technology. If it's the S Pen of your choice, then it's the Note of your choice.

In the meantime, the Galaxy S20+ provides several reasons for buying it, including the same battery capacity as the Note 20 Ultra and a similar hardware loadout. It's also a little cheaper if you're not bothered by the S Pen, and zoom output is the only place where it just can't reach the S20 Ultra.
