The best Amazon Alexa compatible devices you can buy today

There's never been a better time to see what gadgets and extra items you can purchase to increase your voice-controlled nirvana, with many of us now owning smart assistant-powered devices in our homes.

We're looking at the best Alexa accessory devices you can buy to improve your system in this guide for Amazon Echo owners - in addition to having more Echo devices for other rooms, of course!

Logitech Harmony Home Hub

The Harmony Home Hub by Logitech is considered one of the best hubs for controlling your home entertainment system. Plug it into your current TV, Blu-ray player, set-top box and then plug an Echo into the back of it, without having to pick up a remote, then have it power your TV and a host of other smart home items.

AppKettle

Actually, this interesting-looking kettle is very clever - you can ask Alexa to boil it, given that you have enough water in it... which can be a potential problem. It can also be used offline, so instead of clicking it somewhere, you just have to get used to pressing the button. There's also an Android and iOS app accompanying it, but you won't even need to use it too much.

Ultion Smart

This Brisant Secure lock is designed to look at the component - it's available in five finishes - but also to be operated by voice (depending on the edition, Alexa or Siri) while the version compatible with Zigbee is also available. The lock communicates through Bluetooth with your phone and, yes, there's a dedicated app. The relationship is encrypted between the app and the lock.

Neato Botvac D7 Connected

"Alexa, tell Neato to start cleaning." Nothing in life is more rewarding than being able to have floors that are clean, dust and debris-free without having to lift a finger. This is offered by the Botvac Connected sequence from Neato

The latest model joins the D3 Connected and D5 Connected, featuring Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility. Neato's cleaners are famous for the same D-shape, but it adds sophisticated mapping with 'No-Go' lines to tell the robot where it does not go. - All of this works with a new edition of the great Neato app for iOS and Android.

Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd generation

There are a whole host of connected smart thermostats on the market, and the third generation Nest learning thermostat is definitely one of the best ones with Alexa compatibility. Thanks to a revolving frame and an intuitive smartphone app, it has a large, colourful display and is very simple to handle.

Netatmo Weather Station

The Netatmo Weather Station gives you precise measurements of the weather and air quality in real time. Inside and outside your house, you can measure temperature, CO2 concentration, air pressure, humidity, noise pollution and more. Everything you need is a smartphone.

You can ask your Echo for the current outdoor temperature with Alexa help by saying, 'Alexa, ask Netatmo to get the temperature from the outdoor module.'

Honeywell Lyric T6R smart thermostat

The Lyric T6R from Honeywell is a convincing choice, as smart thermostats go. It is simple to use, allowed by Apple HomeKit or Amazon Alexa, and has location-based services for multiple family members. Geofencing allows you to establish a perimeter for your house, so the thermostat informs your heater that you are home and kicks in if one of the users enters that area.

Hive Active Heating and Hot Water

The Hive was one of the first smart thermostats available in the UK, and you get more power than ever with the new version. You can use it to keep your hot water under pressure, protect your pipes from ice, and even give an SMS order to it. And if you like, a British gas engineer will have it installed, regardless of who actually supplies your electricity.

TP-Link Wi-Fi Smart Plug

There is an easy solution for all those non-smart products that you have lying around: a Wi-Fi outlet. Just plug one of these into your usual lamp, kettle, coffee machine or whatever, and have it turned on as soon as you send Alexa the order. You'll only need to tell your Echo to turn on that particular plug as long as it's a simple on/off system.
